Abstract

ABSTRACT : Increasingly rapid development of network technology. Right now many people who take advantage of the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) to make the process of data transmission, monitoring, tracing and others. WSN uses the battery to get the resources, but these resources are still limited. Energy efficiency is needed to conserve its resources WSN. There are several ways to make energy efficiency. One of them using MAC Protocol on OSI layer 2, for power saving. In this study, SMAC protocol and 802.11 protocol applied to wireless communication in a node. Simulating conducted to analyze the performance of MAC protocol in parameters such as delay, packet loss, throughput, and energy efficiency.

Based on the test results of the SMAC protocol and 802.11 generate a comparison of performance that indicates that the 802.11 protocol has a good performance, within the parameters of delay, throughput, and packet drop, namely: delay on the 802.11 protocol is 0.01 seconds and has a delay that SMAC protocol 0.043 seconds, the average throughput in 802.11 protocol is 6 packets per second and the SMAC protocol that is 0.34 packets per second, average packet drop in value by 12% SMAC protocol and the 802.11 protocol by 0.1%, average -rata energy consumption, namely SMAC protocol and the protocol that is the size 802.11 Kb 1000-1500 package with a transfer speed of 1Mb.
